Hi, My name is Timara.
I'm from Christchurch, New Zealand. My Partner and I were given an Axolotl by my step-mother as they no longer wanted him, (the Axolotl was a present from my father to my brother). We were given little to no information on how to look after an axolotl, and after almost a year and a half of having it I found this site.
Thanks to the site we have been able to see that we are not providing the best environment for our axolotl and that what we thought was a male is in face a female. Her name was originally Axel, but we have since changed that to Axie. I know that isn't exactly an original name but a 11 year old named her.
Our Axie is kept in a 40lt tank with an airstone, a number slate rocks that make several Hides and a few ornaments. I now know thanks to this site that we need to get a filter started and that she needs to be feed better food. It can be rather hard in New Zealand tho. There isn't a lot of information.
Sorry for the extremely long post, but it's exciting finally learning after so long how to care properly for Axie.
Thanks Heaps
