This is our newest custom built tank 8foot long 3foot wide and 50cm high. we brought this for $600 n had a stand given to us and i sort've hijacked the pump frm the front yard(Mrs wasn't to happy bout that). Hoping to make a atempt at a wasteland or get as close as possible to a natural creek environment. We are looking for some input on plants and filtration,Looking at building our own background for the back and sides of tank n trying to also keep it insulated. If anyone has built there own before and seeing this is our first attempt at it(to keep cost down) could you please inbox me with some hints on the process. will post pictures as it progresses. Any ideas on this build would be greatly appreciated

Looks like it could end up looking very nice indeed, good luck with it :)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
