I know that a curled tail means a stressed axolotl but I just got mine today and it has been a rather exciting day so do you think he's okay?

Here he is! I really hope he's ok.

He was probably a little stressed being moved around so much. Just keep his tank cool and clean. Did you cycle the tank?

We didn't cycle the tank but we did leave the water sitting out for about a week to de-chlorinate naturally. Also the same water we transported them home in is the same water in their tank. We're getting a pH testing kit in the mail soon. My other one seems to be doing fine though I think he likes being in the dark.

Do you know if chloramine is used in your water treatment? That stuff doesn't evaporate from the water.

Everywhere else I've looked says that chlorine evaporates from water. My other axie is doing fine, just a bit shy but that's it.

Yes "chlorine" does "chloramine" does not. It's not very common that the municipal water supplies use it anymore, but some still do and you should call your local water supplier and find out.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
