Hi I'm Jon,
I am fascinated by axolotl. I know a little about exotic animals and lizards.(which these wonderful amphibians are not.) and I happened to glance at one of these beautiful animals online. Now I tend to research my butt off before I bring anything into my home. I wish more people did that for animals especially. When I found this forum I had to join. It seems like a fountain of knowledge on these beautiful animals.

You will find a lot of people here who share your fascination! Welcome!

Welcome to the forum, and I take my hat off to you for doing your research before acquiring your pet. You might even be able to source one from a breeder on this forum :)

Feel free to discuss lizards and other exotics with me if you like, I keep a few species

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
