Well it turns out i have 17 surviving babies, i know i have to seperate them at 2 weeks old, do i have to seperate them all from eachother or just into smaller groups?

I had 25 in a container (45cm by 30cm) until about one month and then had to put them in individual containers. They become quite cannibalistic when the back legs start developing. Have fun with your babies :)

If you want to avoid cannabalism keep them in individual containers. I generally seperate by size after a month if I want a high survival rate. You can also reduce cannabalism with low stocking densitys, visual barriers (plants like elodea are ideal as solid ornaments can kill larvae during cleaning) and a constant source of food.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
