Hi People,

My name is Hayden,
I live in New Zealand with my wife Nicole
and my two children Mieka (5yrs) and Zac (3yrs).

I work as a Baker for then local supermarket for the last 3 years,
and i absolutely love my job,

But now it seems as though i have found a new interest;

I bought my first Axy two days ago,
He is quite small and a darkish brown color,
and i decided to name him Gary after Sponge Bobs
aquatic pet snail.
(yes i am aware that they are two different species but you get my drift lol :p )

I am really looking forward to spending time on these forums and
learning as much as i can about my pet and hopefully along the line
i will acquire some more of these magical creatures!

With the greatest respect,
Hayden

Hello Hayden and welcome to our forum! A word of caution - keeping caudates can become a highly addicting hobby!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
