Red spotted newts rock. i grew up always in swamps of ohio. the first time i saw one i was in a swamp area at one end of a pond. i seprerated some water plants and newt lazily swam out. i collected it in a bucket. i looked at it for awhile before i released it. this was back in 96 or 97 since then i have seen efts a few different times. i have seen adults more often than efts. i have seen a few rarer big salamanders also over the years in ohio.my dad checked oil wells i used to ride in the truck i would run off and check the swamps and woods each time.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
