Hi guys and gals!

My name is Loren and I'm from Kansas. I use to have many fish tanks (20+) and tiger salamanders. I primarily kept planted tanks and bred dwarf cichlids (apistogrammas). Well I decided to go off to college again and sold all my stuff. Well the itch came back and I decided to combine all my favorites and do a planted axolotl tank.
I haven't set up the tank yet but I'm in the planning stages. Gonna probably do a standard plant tank with lots of foreground and low level plants (HM or HC). Then do some nice background plants, either some hybrid swords or val. Still planning. Gonna get a wild color and a lu axy.

Any opinions are welcome!

Welcome to the forum, Loren!

I have to warn you, axolotls are highly addictive!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
