Im not new to owning or caring for Axolotls, Ive had axolotls for over 7years. I am however newish to raising hatchling Axies. I was just wondering what the "normal" growth rate of young larvae is? I roughly have about 400 larvae that are almost 2 weeks old. They are all eating and growing well but im just curious about how long it will take them to reach 1.5 - 2 inches? any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

About a month but it varies alot because of variations in genetics, temperature, and access to & quality of food. Once you can get them on black worms they will grow like a champ.

I have them eating on Live Daphnia for now. Their water temp stays at about 58 degrees F. and I do half water changes once a week. they are all super fat and healthy looking and have grown allot in 2 weeks. I have had no deaths thus far. I was hoping to switch them over to blood-worms once they are big enough since black worms are a little to expensive. I feed my adults Blood-worms and nightcrawlers with great success.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
