Hi,

How long do you think it will be before these morph?

They are about 6 - 7 weeks old now, about 2 - 3 inches long. They have shed once already. They still have tiny gill stubs left.

They are in a set up, about 2/3 water to land, water about 1 - 2 inches deep, They still eat in the water and although they have been hanging around near the surface on plants they have shown no signs of leaving the water for land.

Thanks

Dave

Guess the answer was another 24 hours. Got up this morning and these two were out on the log.

Moved them to a new setup with loads of hiding places and they were off muching around in no time.

These were the first 2 babies, the rest are a week to 5 weeks behind so lots to look forward to.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
