I was in my local pet shop earlier on and I was looking for sand for my new axolotl tank. They only had one type of sand but in lots of colours. Quartz sand. I was wondering if it effected the ph at all and if it's okay for axolotls. Thx.

Hiya! I have a white quartz sand in my tank. Haven't had any probs...on the packaging it stated the sand was ph neutral and suitable for aquariums. As long as it is fine and not chunky should be good to go

Hmmm.... It was rather coarse. It was probably bordering between sand and fine gravel. But it was called sand...

Can you post a picture of it? If it's getting too coarse, the risk of impaction is going to be higher than with a finer grained sand....

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
