Hello Everyone,

Just writing to ask if this would be cruel?

I have two female axolotls in a 2.5ft and they are both nearing the 20-25cm mark now. I think they look a bit cramped in the tank. I have a male axolotl of 30cm in a 4ft tank. Would it be cruel to move the 30cm male into the 2.5ft tank, and then move the girls into the 4ft tank?

Any suggestions would be great, as I have no funds or room right now to buy a bigger tank :(

I think that's okay. I have a friend who has 2 adult axolotls in a 2.5ft tank. And they seem happy and breed so I don't think it's a problem.

They do seem happy enough, but it seems a waste I have a 4ft tank with just one axolotl in it, when two could go in there and have a bit more room?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they'll all be fine :D It's enough space for 2 axies in there (the smaller tank).
And the other (bigger tank) is big enough for the 30cm male.

Ahh but do you think the 30cm male would be okay in the 2.5 x 1ft tank if I did happen to move them? It's just all he does is sit at one end in the 4ft tank. Feel like the females would benefit more from it. ;)

Yes, he would be fine in there :)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
