Hello. I was wondering what is the best filter/air pump system you can have for your axolotl. I have an under gravel filter which doubles as an air pump but I don't think it's putting enough air into the water.
If the air pump is making bubbles in the water, this should be more than enough aeration. There are some disadvantages to a undergravel filter, however: 1. requires gravel, which is usually a no-no for axolotls 2. difficult to clean out 3. not very efficient for removing waste.
I use a Fluval U2 Submersible Filter for my 54L tank. It's great because it has a built-in spray bar and has three different flow rates. I've also got a separate Eheim Air Pump to help aerate the water
Like was mentioned above, the hang-on back waterfall ones are great too. The only thing you'll have to keep in mind is that a lot of them can be a little bulky and can sometimes prevent you from putting lids on aquariums so you may have to get crafty in that respect
Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation
Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
