I've been using the search engine and I know it's annoying when noobs start asking questions but I just wanted to double-check on a few questions I had:

1. Can 15 axolotl eggs be successfully hatched in a 10 gallon aquarium, I know that after a few weeks they'd have to be thinned out to prevent cannabilism

2. I've set up a brine shrimp hatchery kit and I have about 30 daphnia, can the young be grown primarily on bbs?

3. Should I dechlorinator and let the water sit for a few days or not use any dechlorinator and still let it sit for a few days?

4. I was going to have a few larger rocks and Elodea in the aquariums but no substrate, is this ok for young axolotls because they don't have feet yet?

5. Are axolotl eggs light-sensitive?

Sorry for the annoying questions but I just wanted to double check on the info I've read, Thanks a million!

1. Yes. You'll probably find it easier to raise them in smaller containers, as it's easier to concentrate food. I raise mine in tupperware sandwich containers until they've got back legs.

2. Yes, brine shrimp are fine.

3. Dechlorinator must be used if your water contains chloramines. Chloramines will NOT evaporate like chlorine. Call your municipal water supply and get a water report.

4. Leave out the rocks. Elodea is fine. The less stuff to clean around, the easier it will be (trust me, tupperware!!)

5. Yes. They're nocturnal and lack eyelids. Elodea will give them something to hide under.

When using baby brine shrimp I avoid plants, as they collect the dead shrimp and can cause water problem. If you want to use plants make sure they stay free of debris.

Kaysie is right, smaller containers make it a lot easier. I actually take my babies out of their tank every day for feeding. I put them in small containers to ensure they can easily find the food. I also do this in order to avoid contaminating their tank water and ultimately reduce the amount of water changes and routine cleaning I must perform. I've never heard of anyone else using or suggesting this method, but it has worked wonderfully for me. Good luck to you!

After setting the aquariums up I found out that I cant get a pass to come in over the weekends, Im assuming that they can't go that long without eating so I'll either have to order daphnia for the weekends or see if a custodian/teacher could come over the weekends to feed them so Ill have to work that one out.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
