I like giving Godric feeder fish on occasion because I think he enjoys the hunt and it adds a bit of variety to his diet (which is mainly earthworms) but I have a deep terror of parasites and I know that fish can sometimes carry them.

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a safe, parasite-free source of feeders for Godric, or if anyone has any tips for trying to gauge whether or not a source is safe.

Also, which species of feeder fish would be best? I prefer to use minnows or guppies, but have given him a few comets on rare occasion.

Thanks for the advice! :)

I would say minnows and guppies would be your top choices. I also like to feed my axolotl fish about once a month. You can ensure there is no parasites in a fish by quarantining it for a month.

I have kept guppies and then later white mountain cloud minnow as feeders for my axolotl. I prefer the minnow as they are better suited for the cooler conditions and in my opinion easier to keep. I purchased mine from an aquatic centre and added them to a Walstad tank I was maturing for some jfbn. They stayed there for a couple of months. You must quarantine them for a good month before feeding them to your axolotl. My axolotl gradually caught them all bar one that has been surviving for just over a year now. I think I will be sad when that one eventually gets caught

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
