I would like to offer occasional (~1x a week?) variation in earthworm diet to enrich the life of my future axies. Originally I was thinking feeder guppies, but I've read crustaceans are included in their natural diet, so I was wondering, should I be providing shrimp instead? Or as well?

Unless you're going to breed your own guppies, they shouldn't be offered. Feeder fish are notoriously disease-ridden.

Shrimp are fine. Again, breed your own. I hear red cherry shrimp are one of the easier ones to breed.

Thanks Kaysie - the plan was to bred my own, and to acquire them from other people in my city that breed them for food.

When they are ~2.5" or 3" can they safely be given newborn guppies? I'm guessing I should hold off on the shrimp until they're 4" or so...

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
