As long as your tank is large enough for two, also is the tank water & the axolotl you already have healthy? Is the new one a similar size to your one? If yes to all then getting another is ok :)

If you do get the new one make sure to quarantine & observe the new one - don't just add it straight into your tank.

Let us know if you get a new addition :)

Is your tank big enough & is the water healthy? Do you test it? What is the temperature? If you're maintaining your tank well & your axolotl is healthy then all is good.

Do you understand quarantine - keeping them separate for a while until you are sure the new one is healthy :)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
