Hey! I'm Steven and I Just got my first ever Axolotl, and first pet since I was about 8. I'm 20 years old, and always had a soft spot for reptiles and reptile like creatures. I live in sydbey, Australia and enjoy many things like sports, music, computers and more.

I'm fairly new in aquariums and such, but have done tremendous amounts of research here on this site alone (i worry about the little.guy :p).

My Axolotl (not sure how to tell sex yet) is about 8 months old. If its a male, his name will be Cuauhtemoc. If a female, maybe Cuauhtemiña just to be a funny guy. So for now I just call it Cuau.

Hi from a fellow Sydneysider *waves :)

Great to see another local on here :)

Don't forget to post a pic of your little dude or dudette :D

If I can get my camera close enough without using flash, I sure will. :)

Surprised you could decipher my location. "Sydbey". Totally auto-correct's fault haha. I look forward to learning and growing on this forum!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
