How big to they have to be to sex them and at what age can they breed? This petstore by my house has two of them for 40 bucks..price seem fair? I want to breed them eventually so inetrested in how long they will take and atleast how many inches until they can be sexed and how to sex them..thank you

Pet stores almost never have the best deals! They have to mark up everything quite a bit. That's excluding the fact that it is usually not a good idea to buy a newt from a pet store.

If the male has nuptial pads on his arms, then he is in breeding condition at least. Males are also slimmer, and have "dracula front arms". They are longer and positioned higher up on their body.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
