On the 3rd february our albino female laid just under 200 eggs. now down to only about 30 as all the other died. the dad is wild coloured and so are all the babies, i read that albino females will have albino eggs?? we realised a few days ago that the temperature had shot right up in the tank, got it turned down as soon as we realised. would this be what caused the deaths?

Albino females will initially lay white eggs, but after a few days the eggs start to acquire the color their own phenotype. Unless your male is recessive for albino, all your eggs will be dark.

Temperature probably played a major part. If your two are carrying a recessive lethal gene, that can also explain the death of eggs.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
