I need some tips on feeding a fire belly newt, from your experiance what have you had the most luck with, I have been thinking about digging up some worms out of the back yard(no pesticides in the yard) and starting my own worm bin as a food source.

That´s an excellent idea and i highly recommend it. It will provide you with a safe supply even during the winter months.
These newts will take a variety of foods, although there are individual differences in what they will accept. The best foods are earthworms and fresh-water crustaceans. You can also offer crickets, waxworms, woodlice, blackworms, frozen foods like bloodworms, and even specially formulated axolotl pellets. Live foods are typically not a problem while dead foods might need some taking used to.

Whenever anyone asks I always say NIghtcrawlers. I do earth worms, brine shrimp and used to do blackworms (still use blackworms for the babies), but nightcrawlers keep them nice and full while keep the colors bright as well.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
