What on earth is this?

It definitely had faecal matter in it and Astrid was acting a bit frantic the day before I found it.
Other than finding this, she's acting completely normally now.

Has anyone else seen anything like this?
To me it looks like she's swallowed and passed a bubble or something?

Oh, my tank isn't this dirty, I was just sweeping it all to one corner to collect when I found this.

Looks a lot like poop, although a weird shape, was he kept on gravel at any point?

I can't say I've ever seen that before, I'm guessing that this is one of those situations where 'better out than in' applies though!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
