So I've taken about 5 million pictures of my axolotl. This one turned out really strangely....but I love it. It looks like I photoshopped him into a random background, but I didn't. And he doesn't even look real.

I played around with the settings on my Canon, but I promise he's not cut and pasted in there. The plants are some fake ones I used to have in his aquarium. I wish the detail were better, but I'm still pretty proud of it....and I figured that those of you on here would appreciate it more than my friends (who think I'm weird for taking so many pictures of this guy)!

Ditto... I want one in this colour. Are they available anywhere in England? And whats the official name of the colour?

I believe he is wild type. I used to think he might be melanoid because sometimes he looks darker, but I'm pretty sure he's wild type. Here is a clearer picture of his tail so you can see his coloring better:

I would say wildtype as well. If he doesn't have a shiny ring around his eye than I would call him a melanoid. I love the picture! Reminds me of my first wildtype Plant. I miss that girl.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
