My axolotl pinky has got black on his fingertips but hasn't grown much and no cloaca change is this just saying he will soon be mature.

As far as I know black toe tips are a sign of growing older as an axie. Not sexual maturity like most people think. Can anyone conform this? I wanna know for sure now :)

My young leucistics had them too. Still weren't sexually mature but on their way to become adults. :)

I can confirm that none of my axolotls I've had and every axolotl I've seen on her that just turned their toes were not sexually mature yet. So I think it's a pretty good chance that they don't reach sexual maturity the same time their toes change. Also I would wait till about 10 months to really start sexing. If it is a male you will know without a doubt that it's male.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
