with little ones i believe they are hungry if their toes touch the floor.

Older adult axys weight should be monitored a bit

It says you should feed them pellets twice a day so you use them up faster, so you have to buy more ;)

I feed my axies every second day. A good way to check if your axolotl is a good weight is that their tummy should be as wide as their head (above view)

Honestly, it depends on your axolotls:
hatchlings - 2x a day
Juveniles - daily
sub-adults - every other day
adults -2-3x a week

This seems to be the general rule, at least.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
