Hi guys, My name is Nick and I just started looking at axolotls because me and my girlfriend thinking about getting one. We own a small 5 gallon tank with Black moor gold fishes so we kind of know a little about fish and aquariums. We want to know more about axolotls, especially their genes we like albino / leucistic colors but what does GFP mean? I see some people write leucistic GFP on the sale sub board. Does anyone know any where around NY Buffalo area that sells axolotls, or if I buy it online what does shipping normally cost? I know it have to be one day shipping. And nice to meet you all hope I can learn more axolotls here. Thanks!

GFP or Green Fluorescent Protein is a genetically altered jelly fish gene. It was added to axolotls many generations ago and has passed down. Any gfp axolotl will glow green under a blacklight and any ultra violet light. If you were looking to get an axolotl, myself as well as others on this site sell them.

Thanks for the offer but my gf likes leucistic not much wild type fans or golden albinos. But yeah is it hard to raise them from egg? what are the consequences?

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
