So i never bothered looking into whether or not my axolotl truly was or was not GFP, but when i got him, i remember the guy telling me that it was. Lately, i've been reading a lot of threads about it & I'm still confused on how to tell them apart (nongfp & gfp) so does anyone want to clarify? :)

The best way to tell if it's GFP is to get a blacklight and see if it glows.

Personally, it doesn't look GFP to me. GFP axolotls usually have emerald-green eyes.

Here's the eyes on a GFP, also the whole animal kinda has a greenish cast. Although some express more of the gene than others. This little one is a high GFP.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
