HELP!

Can anyone identify these worm like creatures, I have no idea what they are, or how they got into my tank,
My tank only has one axolotl (usually only eats beef heart and pellets) which has been in there for a month now, and I have never seen anything like this.

He is currently in a separate tank being quarantined in fear these could be harmful.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum!

It looks like mosquito larvae to me. Likely a female mosquito came in and laid some eggs in your aquarium and these hatched out. They're harmless to your axolotl, and axolotl larvae will actually eat them if they're quick enough. If your axolotl isn't eating them, I'd take them out of the tank unless you want mosquitoes flying around your home.

Thanks!

Was really worried they were anchor worms or something horrible.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
