Hey every one! I'm new to this forum and new to axolotls. I currently have a 60 gallon freshwater tank, and a 75 gallon tank that I'm slowly turning into a saltwater tank. ( or I should say my husband is) My pride and joy ( and new obsession) is the axolotl I will be picking up In couple days. I have wanted to get one for a long time and did a lot of research, but noticed the best research is the advice and experience from axolotl owners. I started in a forum on an app but another member on there told me about this one and how it's way better when it comes to axolotls. I'll be sure to post a pic of my new critter as soon as I get him!

Newt chick, axolotls are illegal in California.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
