Hey everyone...I have seen people feed axolotls feeder gold fish, is this good? What are your opinions?

Not good at all. Fish should not represent a significant portion of an axolotl´s diet. In the wild they probably only eat the odd one and mostly as carrion as they are opportunistic but not well suited for capturing fish.
Gold fish are a particular concern because they carry diseases that can affect axolotls and because they contain high levels of thiaminases. In short, not adequate as food for axolotls and potentially dangerous.

Good to know! Thank you! What are the best things to feed them?

Earthworms are the best staple. You can find many dozen threads discussing adequate axolotl foods in this section.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
