So I got a female and male today and hope that they are the right sexes. What do you think? Please tell me if the sexes are incorrect. Thanks, they are really pretty :D

These little ones are my dream newts ... Too cute

For me the first one also looks female. Its tail is too long for a male, the end of the tail is too pointed, and the size of the cloaca is the same as the second newt (at least on the photos).

Little update on them and their aquarium. The plants are growing in well and the darker one is seeming to be male due to blue coloring developed in its side. I also caught the lighter one with her legs wrapped around a plant as if she were laying eggs, so I am assuming its female.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
