Hello everybody. I'm Stevie and I'm from North East England.

After browsing over these forums for some time I've finally decided to bite the bullet and register an account so I can post, ask questions, hopefully answer other people's questions, and generally chat with people who share an interest in caudates (specifically axolotls).

Last year I adopted two two-year-old male axolotls, and in no time at all I fell in love with them. Simon and Audrey (the axolotls; Audrey was named by the previous owner before they knew 'she' was actually a he!) are doing excellently, and are very much a part of my small animal collection. I also own two bearded dragons, a black rat snake and an English bulldog, and let me tell you, feeding time with the axolotls definitely rivals feeding my snake!

Anyway, I've rambled on long enough here. This was only meant to be a short thread! I look forward to contributing to this community.

Welcome from Cornwall!
Hope you find everything you want and need on here, whether that's urgent advice or just a laugh!
I got into axxies by accident too. My first was an impulse buy by my parents, now she is the single most amazing pet I have ever raised. We also have an assortment of fish and two dogs (Susie Lou the Patterdale, and Millie the Lab).
See you on the boards!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
