Hey guys, I have 2 beautiful Lotls, and they had a ton of eggs in January, and now they're having more eggs, it seems like I read somewhere that they can only have eggs every 12 months or so but mine have already had 2 spawns of eggs and this is within maybe 4 months of each other.
Does anyone know whats up? Maybe they're just a really well matched couple lol

I have no experience with this but i imagine it would be every couple of months as opposed to once a year.
Fish have lots of batches within a few motnhs then stop all winter dont they? i imagine its similar to that

It's not healthy for them to lay eggs too often, more than a couple times a year. Some axolotls can lay eggs almost continuously.

I am no expert when it comes to this, but I think another factor that would help in this is their health. Think about a non healthy or not as healthy one compared to an extremely healthy one.. Also probably another factor is the conditions they live in.. Hope this helps:)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
