Hi guys! I'm from Boston, MA, but I currently go to school at UMass Lowell. I've always had a weird affinity towards scaley, slimy friends. I can remember being a little over 4 years old, and visiting my uncle, who at the time had a massive ball python. I wanted to hold her so bad, and my uncle let me, although my parents were a bit horrified, to say the least. They would ask me, "Taylor, aren't you scared! He's the size of four of you!!!" My four year old, tiny self said smilingly, "He's a SHE, and SHE is beautiful." From then on, unconventional, non-furry animals were an obsession. I would go camping and try to catch little frogs (just to look at, of course). and I even would play with worms! I was a strange, strange, little girl.

Anyways, so here I am now! I've been researching axolotls since I discovered their existence about two years ago. Finally feeling comfortable with the amount of research I've done as far as keeping some myself, I arrived here! I've started cycling my tank at home, and am planning on getting two lil axies in the next few months! So excited for my first non-furry friend :)

Welcome from the MA/RI line :]

You've come to the right place!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
