Hi everyone! Last year a dear friend of mine got a wildtype axolotl from a Developmental Biology class and I knew I wanted an albino. Well, this year I was in the same class, and what a coincidence! They accidentally got a shipment of albinos! :p I am now the happy owner of four axolotls. Two are definitely melanoid or axanthic albinos, but two are trickier - they clearly have iridophores, but I can't quiiiiite tell if they're golden or white. Any thoughts?

And yes, the tank is cycled and unheated, the filter is on low and output is dispersed, I'm using sand (albeit large-grain sand, which is not the best thing) and feeding bloodworms. They've got hides and live plants too. I did my research! :D

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
