I'm building a tank stand out of cinder blocks and 2x4's. I sent my husband out to buy some wood and told him to get 2x4s that are hardwood, like oak. However he brought back pine 2x4s which are softwood...

I'm not really sure if this will work or not? I'm kind of iffy about it, I'm thinking it will snap. It will be supporting a 40g breeder.

I don't know too much about wood other than what my Dad has taught me, and hubby is a city boy so... any help is appreciated.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
