I just got my 4th axie, making our little family complete. We tried to get a golden one, but they seem to be in short supply, so we found a loveley little wild type. She doesn't have a name yet, but she's a beautiful speckled brown with a creamy belly.
We aslo think we have their genders figured out: Pinky (7") and Freckles (6.5") are male, Red (7.25")and the new girl (~5") are female.

I also found out that they guy who used to supply all the local pet shops with baby axies has retired and moved away, and they are looking for reliable breeders..... I said I'd keep in touch...

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
