Hi there, I just received my Marimo Moss Ball today, can anyone tell me how and how long I need to quarantine before adding to my tank?

Also, I'm assuming that it is quite heavy and compact due to being posted, should I expect it to "fluff out" a bit with soaking? Looks like a ball of felt at the moment

I'm not sure how you would quarantine a moss ball. When I get new ones I soak them in dechlorinated water for a couple of hours then squeeze them out like a sponge. Then I put them in fresh dechlorinated water and squeeze them out again a few times. I have found that they tend to float unless you give them a squeeze under water and hold them down whilst they fill up again.

If they have not been kept with fish there should be no need to quarantine them. You may get a few uninvited guests like snails but this has never happened to me.

Yes, moss balls fluff up nicely. We got smails with ours despite a good rinse, but they didn't last long!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
