I'm not sure if this is the right place for this; you guys have a lot of forums!

I've read a few places that natural light is sufficient for newts, especially given the heat that normally comes off bulbs. With my reptiles, I've always used artificial light because of the heat they produce, in combo with a heat lamp for several hours a day, but given that salamanders and newts require cooler temps, I know that won't work. :)

My setup will be right up against a large glass window/door combo. What do you guys think about using only natural light? Have you had success with that, or do you not recommend it and prefer using artificial?

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
