Hello all,

My name is kenny and i have kept newts as pets for 18 years now currently i have 6 newts which are 4 smooth newts and 2 palmate newts and always trying to gather more and pass down my love for newts onto my 3 children which ofc they love them loads and always ask me to go out and search for more :)

It is great to see so many people like me here on these forums and its nice to know im not the only one who has love for these little guys.

Here is a photo of my set up and btw they are all hiding very well :)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
