Today when I was watching my lotls after feeding them, I noticed something I'd never seen before on my golden albino. The very tip of his tail is a blackish gray color. It's at the very tip at the the end of the tail and hardly visible at all (hence why I couldn't get a picture). He's acting normal, and I don't think it's much to worry about (hopefully), but I thought I'd ask around and see if this has happened to anybody else. Who knows, it could've been there the whole time I've had him and I've just never noticed it. My water is 68 (20) degrees. A tad warm but they don't seem to mind.
Ph-6.6
Ammonia- runs between .25 and .5 ppm
Nitrite- usually 0 ppm
Nitrate- 10-20 ppm
Any way like I said, probably nothing to worry about, but thought I'd take it up with the experts just to be sure.

Are you sure nitrite is 0? if ammonia is present then nitrite is usually there as the tank is currently cycling, if i was you, just to be safe i would keep your axie in a tub of dechlorinated water whilst the tank is still cycling :D

Well I say 0, but there's a trace of it in there. Somewhere between 0 and .25, looks closer to being to 0 though. I have been juggling the idea of putting them in tubs while the tank cycles but I don't know if I could keep their temperature as cool and stable in the tubs as I would in the tank.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
