My dead Axl Rosl is swollen. Yesterday it looked prefectly normal, I didnt react when I fed it some hours ago (an earthworm), but now it is looking fat. The stomach is rounder and the swelling starts at the throat and goes back to the hind legs. The head is rounder as well on top.

Conditions should be fine and it has been getting the same food for some months. I recently introduced some baby pond snail but they shouldnt be a problem? The only issue with the tank atm is the summer heat, and its around 22-23 C

Does anyone know what this is? The skin isnt streched, it is just a lot rounder all of a sudden. It is on the bottom and is feeding as per usual

Thanks!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
