Yeah haha axies see movement and think "FOOD!!" but as long as they are a healthy size i.e their tummies are as wide as their head, then they dont need food :)
Theyre just very greedy, mine follow me up and down the tank as im walking round my room hehe

Yup! Mine will pay attention if anyone open the lid, regardless of time or hunger. They will look up, then sit up, then swin to the surface.

They will try and nibble anything - the turkey baster, anyone dumb enough to put their hands in (me!), any frozen bottles I use to cool the tank - they even attacked the new (plastic) plant I put in a few weeks ago!

Mine attacks plants and rocks. I cut his worms up and leave them all over his tank so he can hunt. But he gets too carried away, smells a worm and snaps at everything in his path! :D

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
