I bought some juvie axolotls late april and I'm curious if they're growing properly.
I've estimated that they are probably 3 months and around a week old and they're close to 13 cm in length.
The seller fed them on baby brine shrimp when they were tiny and then frozen bloodworms. I currently feed them mostly earthworm, that are cut up so they can eat it, and occasionally frozen bloodworms if I run out of worms.

Does their growth sound good? I didn't expect them to get this big this fast (I think they were around 4-5ish cm long when I got them and around a month and a half old).

From everything I've read on this site and others, their body should be about the same width as their head. If that's what they look like, then they should be fine. Everything I've read suggests that axolotls grow rather quickly.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
