Hi all, i have 4 axies, 2 male and 2 females or so i think, i know the the females are definate females and one of my male is deffo male as they have bred previously, i keep them seperate, male only and female only. question is i came down this morning to find me known male pacing the tank dropping sacks, will he drop them if he is in with another male or have i sexed wrong and have another female? thanks :happy:

As far as i'm aware they will and can still drop their stuff without the female present.

Although in this case if your not 100% sure on the sexes i'm sure you'll find out in the next few days ;)

thanks melfly, theres 2 sacks still on the floor, looks like there is no intention of them been picked up, never seen them breed, only ever found eggs once the deed had been done:D there where doing a little mating dance if that means anything lol:confused:

Mine did that when he was alone in a tank. Silly thing with gills. :)

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
