So, with king's tank cycled with the help of detox and bottled bacteria (actually helps the cycle, it turns out), I decided to get another little guy.... He's in quarantine for the standard reasons plus a bit of a size difference, so I'm feeding him earthworms (ate them right off the bat) and named him Kaspar.

He's also high expression gfp.. And it turns out king is gfp, too. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1371906024.324370.jpg

So, this is him.... Qting until he grows a bit to catch up with king, and until I know there is no chance of disease.

I'm one happy kid right now :D

That's a nice looking GFP

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
