Hi about 3 weeks ago one of my baby axolotls jumped out of his tub :(. i am not sure ho long he was out, it could have been 3 hrs maximum.

I thought he was dead but when i carefully lifted him up he moved so i put him straight back into the tub. he was bent for a day (from his bottom) the whole of his tail was bent. after about 12 hours he straightened out and was eating fine etc.

occasionally he is now swimming in circles upover. by that i mean he is swimming in an almost perfect circle and when he gets to the top of the circle he is upside down. last night when i went to feed him he was floating upside down at the top of the tank, i had to touch him 3 times before he swam away quite annoyed!

other than that as i say he is eating and pooping fine. no fungus or sores, no flicking or darting around.

Should i fridge him? could it be an air bubble? to be honest i didnt think he would have survived his dive from the tub

Any help much appreciated thanks xxx

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
