Our tap water is about 6.8
I have two concrete troughs set up out side one with goldfish, the other with axolotls.
The pH in the axys appears to be 8.4
I have just done a clean out of the fish (removed a lot of the slugde and run water through )
and their pH is 8.2/8.4 ish.
When I cleaned out the fish pond I found a lot of debris that my lovely daughter had put in there over the last couple years... oyster shells, egg shells, and some other random objects) I removed most of these but there may be the odd oyster shell left.
The axolotls pond was set up about 2 months ago, I added oxygen weed from the fish pond, and terracotta pot hides and anchors for the weed roots.
I have done a couple siphons of the pond and top ups.
What causes the ph to go up?? I would assume the fish pond it could have been the shells, but what about the axys? Is it the concrete or algae or something else?
(tested axys pond and it is 0,0,0)
