I will find june bug larvae when I'm digging for earthworms from time to time but it only occured to me now that they might make a good food. Are they safe for Axies? I know people feed them to their tiger salamanders and that they need their heads cut off because they have sharp jaws that could hurt the salamanders.

So, is it a yay or nay for feeding them to axolotls? They'd be collected from pesticide free soil.

As long as you decapitate them and they're appropriate size, they're probably fine. Just keep in mind the possibility of disease/parasite transmission that's present in all wild-caught (and even some CB) food.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
