Not quite sure how to navigate this site yet and how to post, so hope this makes it. I live in Bakersfield, California. I currently have 4 fire bellied newts in a tank. In a separate tank I have 4 adult and 7 baby California Newts.

I would like to know if anyone knows places in California where I can go and observe Newts or Salamanders in the wild. I find them quite fascinating. I have found some up here in the Kern River Valley but would like to observe other types.

Does anyone know if you can keep either Spanish Ribbed Newts or Crocodile (Emperor) Newts with California Newts or Fire Bellied Newts.

Thank you for your time.

Welcome to the forum! Newts of the US Western coast are my favorite. You might be able to search around and find the answers to your questions.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
